Germany look set to become the next country to legalize Cannabis, although the nation will not be as relaxed on the law as first thought, several media sources have reported.
It was initially believed that the drug could have been entirely legalised, with commercial shops being able to sell it for widespread use, however this has substantially changed following talks between the nation & the European Commission discussing a paper released by the German government last year.
It is now becoming evident that the laws will allow some cannabis possession for personal use alongside a pilot period of private culitvation.
Members of the public will now be allowed to grow and cultivate a maximum of three plants at home.
The laws on possession are also set to change with the legal limit for acquiring and possessing the plant moving to 25g for personal consumption.
The introduction of ‘clubs’ will further look to secure the safety of the roll out with the government allowing adults to form clubs with up to 500 members- of whom can distribute up to 50 grams per member a month & 30 grams for those under the age of 21.
The roll out is yet to receive an official timeline but it is believed that the initial legislation will be drawn up in the coming months, with Agriculture Minister Cem Ă–zdemir saying: “The cannabis project is taking the next step today so that cannabis use will become legal this year.” The German standpoint on cannabis follows suit with a majority of Europe with the plant being legal for medicinal use.
